Dr. Ileana Perez-Quintairos, Dermatologist with Baptist Health South Florida, explains the stratum corneum is the dead part of the skin and it can get thicker as we become older. She says it gives a yellow color to our skin, but it can be improved with some products.

She points out if the epidermis stays healthy, that part of the skin will not develop precancer or skin cancer. The epidermis is where doctors look for atypical cells.
