Causes of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) |
Every year there are approximately 14 million new Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infections in the United States. Dr. Alberto Sirven, Medical Director of the West Kendall OB/GYN Program and Women and Infant Credentials Committee Chairman with West Kendall Baptist Hospital, says the main cause is having intercourse.
“HPV could be contracted in any time of intercourse whether is male to female, female to female or male to male. All those different types of sexual activity will cause HPV,” he points out and explains there is also the possibility of transmission from mother to children.
