Dr. John Eustace, Medical Director of Care & Counseling with Baptist Health South Florida, explains a year ago, opioids referred to synthetic narcotics. “But now because of the epidemic that overlaps heroin and synthetics, the term opioid is used for the general category narcotics, be it legal, illegal, pharmaceuticals, morphine or heroin," he says.
