The free-standing emergency departments are physically separated from hospitals, can evaluate and stabilize any patient, have advanced diagnostic and lab facilities, and they may be closer than a hospital E.R.

Dr. Jose Llach, Medical Director of Free Standing Emergency Department with Baptist Health South Florida, says free-standing emergency rooms are not attached to the hospital, and there they are able to take care of pediatric patients and adult patients. He explains they do any diagnostic testing they need to an emergency setting.
