Hormonal Influence of Calories |

Dr. Manuel Torres, Family Medicine Physician at Baptist Health Primary Care, explains different types of calories (from fat, from carbohydrates, from protein) have different hormonal influence.

“If you predominantly eat a carbohydrate heavy diet, we’re 90, 80, 60, 70 percent of the calories that are coming in from carbohydrates. That favors our hormonal profile where the dominant satisfaction hormone is insulin, which inhibits your ability to process and use that body fat for energy reserve,” he explains.
