Menthol in cigarettes can anesthetize the lungs and respiratory system and disguise the damage being done by smoking. Also, menthol cigarettes are specifically marketed to young people and minority communities. Efforts are underway to ban menthol in cigarettes to help reduce the rate of smoking-related health problems.
