Dr. Moraima Trujillo, Chief Medical Officer with Banyan Health, explains psychiatric emergencies can be related to depressed patients who are experiencing suicidal thoughts and may attempt against their life or psychotic episodes where they are not in touch with reality.

She says people using drugs or alcohol and become intoxicated and could potentially cause any harm to themselves or others are psychiatric emergencies as well. She points out they provide adequate treatment to counteract the signs and symptoms of the condition patients are experiencing.
