The Importance Of Percent Daily Value

Lucette Talamas

“Percentage DV stands for a Percent Daily Value, it’s basically a very simple way to look at your nutrient column and the percentage so you can make a quick decision on is this a high amount or low amount,” explains Lucette Talamas, Registered Dietitian at Baptist Health South Florida.

According to her, you need to remember two numbers: 5 and 20. If the percentage is around 5%, you can consider it low; and high if it is around 20%. For example, if you are looking at saturated fat on the Nutrition Facts label, you want to keep the number more around the 5%.
