Carotid Artery disease: Endarterectomy

The goal of endarterectomy is to open the internal coronary like a book, and use a spatula to separate the plaque from the carotid’s wall, explains Dr. Athanassios Tsoukas, Vascular Surgeon with Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute. The procedure lasts two hours, and it includes an eventual duplex ultrasound on the table, the specialist says.
