Consequences of Eating Disorders
Dr. Molly McShane, Psychiatrist and Medical Director for Monte Nido and Affiliates, says eating disorders are the most deadly mental illness, because many patients die from heart problems they develop because of an eating disorder.
She explains these patients also have reproductive problems, because the body's hormones get thrown off and people develop potential fertility problems. They may have gastrointestinal diseases, for example, reflux and dental problems can occur for purging and vomiting.
