Diagnosing Heart Disease
There are diagnostic tools in cardiology to know if there is any problem with your heart. Some of them are electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG), holter monitoring, echocardiogram, stress test, cardiac catheterization, cardiac CT and cardiac MRI.
Dr. Paula Montana de la Cadena, Cardiovascular Specialist with Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute, points out EKG is a tool that allows doctors to see the electrical activity of the heart. This doesn't necessarily mean that every time you have an EKG you will be able to diagnose underlying heart disease; it is a good tool depending on the setting, but a normal EKG doesn't necessarily rule out any heart disease.
