Treating Sleep Disorders

Dr. David Seiden, Medical Director of the Pembroke Pines Sleep Center with Baptist Health South Florida, explains for treating sleep disorders, doctors may require the use of a sleep diary. "Patients go home, fill in the diary with good specific information about when they might be falling asleep, when they're waking up, what they're doing at night. We want them to be very specific and track what they're doing, and then we need to make an appropriate diagnosis." According to him, the next step is cognitive behavioral therapy, improving sleep hygiene. This can be effective, before even going to medication.
