Learning About Scoliosis
Dr. Georgiy Brusovanik, Spine Surgeon with Baptist Health South Florida, explains scoliosis is a very common condition. It is a three dimensional curvature of the spine, which means that not only the spine turns sideways, but there is a significant rotational component.
He recommends an easy way to tell if your kids have scoliosis: "Stand in front or in the back of them, have them have their legs nice and even on the floor, and just have them bend over to try and touch their toes. What you will see is that nice symmetrical curvature of the spine, in patients who have scoliosis will be altered and one side will come up."
