Clinical Depression: Causes and Symptoms

Ana Lara, Outpatient Psychiatry Supervisor with Banyan Health, explains the symptoms of clinical depression are: desire to do anything, ideas of suicide, tiredness, sleepiness, and a general lack of desire to participate. She also says any of those symptoms for over a two-week period or longer can lead to a diagnosis of depression. Dr. Moraima Trujillo, Chief Medical Officer with Banyan Health, explains depression can be family inherited; or it can be part of the fact that during the development of childhood, patients were exposed to lots of trauma.
