Different Types Of Parasomnia
Nightmares, night terrors and sleepwalking are some of the types of parasomnia disorders. Timothy Grant, Medical Director of Baptist Sleep Center at Baptist Outpatient Services, explains para means around and somnia means sleep. "The definition is doing something in and around sleep you don't want to do, the classic example is sleepwalking," he says.
He tells the case of a patient who had to strap a rope around his shoulder, because at night while he was sleeping he was breaking his TVs. The doctor says he had REM sleep behavior disorder, and that is when you sleep and dream and you are acting out the dream.
