Mammography: 2D vs 3D
There are four types of breasts: fatty breast, scattered glandular tissue, heterogeneous dense and extremely dense, explains Dr. Priyanka Grover, Breast Imaging Radiologist with Baptist Health South Florida.
She says dense breast means women have less fat in their breasts and more glandular tissue. In those cases, studies recommend the use of 3D mammography, because it’s a great tool to detect cancers which were not easily visible on 2D mammogram or ultrasound.
It’s a very sensitive tool in cancer detection, she says.
