Types Of Scoliosis

According to the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, scoliosis affects between 2 and 3 percent of the American population, about 6 to 9 million people. Congenital, early onset scoliosis, adolescent idiopathic, degenerative, and syndromic are some of the types of scoliosis. Dr. Georgiy Brusovanik, Spine Surgeon with Baptist Health South Florida, says congenital scoliosis is very scary. It happens when the kid is born with a curve. He points out it is important to find out why. "With congenital things, like neurofibromatosis or congenital fusion of vertebra where the vertebra is stuck together, it's important to rule out because the curve will progress rapidly."
