Pelvic Floor Disorder and Physical Therapy
Louise Gleason, PT, Physical Therapist with the Center for Women and Infants at South Miami Hospital, explains every sexually active woman should get regular exams, because there are a lot of issues that may contribute to pelvic floor dysfunction that the physician should be diagnosing and taking care of.
She says the Kegel exercises are for tightening the pelvic floor muscles. She points out the benefit of physical therapy is that doctors take the simple contraction of the pelvic floor and put it into a functional context, like jogging, lifting a baby or putting luggage in an overhead compartment.
