Risk Factors for Addiction

Dr. John Newcomer, President and Chief Executive Officer of South Florida Behavioral Health Network, says exposure is a risk factor for addiction. The fundamental concept is that if you never get exposed you will never get addicted. He explains another risk factor is access. He points out one of the challenges with the opioid epidemic is that you do not have to go to some remote part of the town in a scary dangerous neighborhood to find opiates.
