Laparoscopic vs. Open Surgery: Recovery

Laparoscopic appendectomy is usually under 30 minutes if it’s not perforated, says Dr. Juan Sola, Chief of Pediatric Surgery at Baptist Children's Hospital. Kids recover faster than adults in cases of laparoscopic appendectomy, according to Jennifer Couceyro, Advanced Registered Nurses Practitioner with Baptist Children’s Hospital. She adds children get up and eat quickly. Dr. Sola says at Baptist Children’s Hospital they do about one appendix operation a day, about 300 to 350 per year.
