Anatomy of the Liver

Dr. Jeffrey Schneider, Gastroenterologist with Baptist Health South Florida, explains the liver has multiple functions. "It helps in your metabolism and the processing of foods and carbohydrates. It helps in the production of sugar, and it eliminates toxins as well." About digestion, he says the liver makes bile and it gets stored in the gallbladder, then the bile is released through the gallbladder and down the bile duct into the intestine where it mixes with your food and helps you process and digest food.
