Infertility can be a cancer risk factor, explains Dr. Victor Guardiola, Medical Oncologist with Miami Cancer Institute. The early detection of breast cancer allows having the time that experts need to educate patients and make them through the possible process of fertilization and make a huge difference, he says.

Breast Cancer Genes

Genes are a very tiny component of people's whole DNA structure, explains Dr. Victor Guardiola, Medical Oncologist with Miami Cancer Institute. He describes there are certain genes when having a mutation that carries enough risk for breast cancer and some other malignancies to consider. Dr. Guardiola also talks about double mastectomy before the event of cancer. He says that doctors have, as a job, to educate women and provide them with tools showing them, in most cases, if they need the double mastectomy.

Preserving Fertility

Dr. Victor Guardiola, Medical Oncologist with Miami Cancer Institute explains how It's possible to preserve fertility before cancer treatment. Embryo preservation, egg freezing, ovarian transposition and cervix removal are some of the techniques that allow preserving fertility after cancer treatment, he says.

Infertility In Women

Premature menopause, eggs permanently damaged, eggs canâ€™t reach uterus, a fertilized egg canâ€™t attach to uterus are the main causes of infertility in women. Elina Melik-Levine, Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner at the same center, says they always encourage a couple's consultation because both can be involved in any treatment or procedure.
