Dr. Judith Crowell, Dermatologist with Baptist Health South Florida, explains the UVB rays (the burning rays) do not penetrate as deeply into skin, but they cause sunburn cells. “We do recover from the sunburn in 24 hours, but skin never forgets.”

She also says the UVA rays are the ones that come right through windows, and those are the rays that penetrate into the dermis.
