Healthy vs. Unhealthy Foods Interview With Unni GreeneIn an interview with the Health Channel, Unni Greene, Personal Trainer and Nutritionist with SoMi Fitness, gives some examples of healthy and unhealthy foods.

Healthy foods have a low glycemic index and what we call “junk foods” have higher glycemic indexes. Junk foods puts a load on your body and increase insulin levels. You want to be eating predominantly foods that have a lot of naturally occurring fiber and nutrients. Foods like Coke, Doritos, and Chips Ahoy are all effectively foods made in a lab, so their nutrients are not as valuable.

Some examples of healthy foods are vegetables and fruits such as bananas, zucchini, and celery. Unni Greene says that celery is especially good for decreasing water retention. Sweet potatoes, while they have a little bit of sugar, they also have a lot of fiber. So, your body does not have to work hard to metabolize it. This prevents your insulin levels from increasing.
