Anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating are common eating disorders. Dr. Paula Levine, Psychologist and Founding Director of the Miami Counseling Resource Center, says binge eating is more common than either anorexia or bulimia, and yet binge eating is the newest disorder to be classified in the manual.

“People tend to eat more than they should on a regular basis, which does not necessarily mean they’re overweight.” She explains 70% of people with binge eating disorder have a problem with overweight, because in the binge eating they take in many more calories than they can possibly work off.

Wow according to statistics Joel may prove me wrong binge eating is more common than either anorexia or bulimia and yet binge eating is the newest disorder to be classified in what we call our dsm-5 our diagnostic Statistical Manual which means it’s been not popular not out for a very long time as someone recently said to me we used to call it garden-variety compulsive overeating garden-variety compulsive overeating people just tend to eat you know more than they should on a regular basis which doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re overweight that’s another this is gonna be another tricky very very tricky part of it that’s why it’s so complex which is what I said at the beginning right although 70% of people with binge eating disorder do have a problem with overweight because they in the binges they take in many many more calories than they can possibly work off even if there’s two hours in the gym planned for the next morning and would you say that having an eating disorder can then be coupled with other conditions like PTSD anxiety depression do they go hand-in-hand talk yes they do well at three or four coma brick-like are called comorbidities again which Joe will talk about certainly anxiety disorders I’m one of them being OCD and then a piece of that is posters of compulsive disorder which is but it’s classified as an anxiety disorder but then sort of inside OCD what you find is a personality trait is a lot of perfectionism so when we dilute this down not only are their personality disorders there are personality traits that go along with having an eating certain and perfectionism is one of them particularly for the anorexic you
