Lucette Talamas, Registered Dietitian with Baptist Health South Florida, says vegan and vegetarian diets are currently trending, but they have been around for a long time, mainly due to religious reasons.
She also explains people may think that if they switch to vegan or vegetarian diets, they may see weight loss. However, she suggests making sure they know why they are considering it.

Let’s start with vegan and vegetarian diets sure so vegan and vegetarian diets are currently trending but they have definitely been around for a long time and those people that have been following them for a long time may be mainly due to religious reasons or other reasons know that they’ve been around but right now vegan and vegetarianism is trending and also because of weight loss so people may think that if they switch to vegan or vegetarian diet that they may see weight loss so the main thing is that if someone’s considering going vegan or vegetarian is to I like to make sure that they know why because anytime you do a drastic diet change you want to make sure it’s something that suits your lifestyle and lasts lifelong so you don’t want to just do it just because it’s trendy you want to make sure that it fits your lifestyle so that you can stick to it so plant-based eating such as vegan and vegetarian diets is very healthy if it’s appropriately planned so there is such thing as an unhealthy vegetarian diet because at that another day cookies and crackers and chicks are still vegetarian so we want to make sure that you get enough of the real food real fruits and vegetables your whole grains you’re not seed legumes as the foundation of any diet whether it’s vegetarian or not Lucette you make a really good point and planning is so important to part of that plan may also mean talking to your physician about whether you should be doing a plant-based diet depending on your blood test results depending on your general health your risk factors these are all things that are important and part of that plan we’re all looking for success here I’d like to ask Coach Shirazi what he thinks about plant-based plant-based diets and and in a holistic health practitioner point of view I need that yes I agree completely with what the set was mentioning as far as creating and cultivating healthy lifelong sustainable habits and like with any diet trend you want to make sure that it’s balanced it’s well-rounded and it’s meant for you I I highly value customized approaches when dealing with our body’s mind and spirit in a holistic fashion you to take into account and learn about each and every factor
