How can some children benefit from occupational therapy? Vickie Zamora, Clinical Director of Occupational Therapy at Carpe Diem Academy, discusses the different kinds of OTs available from infancy all the way to adulthood. From manipulating small objects, buttoning up a shirt, using scissors, pencils and utensils to following directions, she explains how occupational therapy can improve the fine motor skills of kids on the autism spectrum, children with Down Syndrome, or those with congenital disorders or any developmental delays. Vickie emphasizes the fundamental role the parents play during the treatment.  She also clarifies the difference between occupational therapy and physical therapy.
